Postcard Photograph signed: "Phyllis/Brooks". Sepia, 3½x5½. American
actress and model Phyllis Brooks (1915-1995) was first known for her advertising
work as the Ipana Toothpaste Girl. She starred in B-movies of the late
1930s, including In Old Chicago and Little Miss Broadway. She
accompanied Gary Cooper on the first USO tour of the Pacific Theater in World
War II. After the war she married 11-term Massachusetts Congressman
Torbert MacDonald, President Kennedy's college roommate and close friend.
After hosting a local interview show on Boston TV in the early 1950s, she
retired to raise her children, the eldest of whom was JFK's godson. Pencil note
(unknown hand) on verso. Edges and corners lightly worn and creased. Otherwise,
fine condition.
