PHYLLIS COATES
Handwritten note to a teacher from the first TV "Lois Lane", and the
first to play the role opposite George Reeves
Autograph Note signed: "Sorry -/I haven't any/photos -/Best of
luck/with your students/Phyllis Coates", 6x9 page. Phyllis Coates,
bornGypsie Ann Evarts Stell in Wichita Falls, Texas in
1927, starred in many B-movies of the 1950s, often westerns and
science fiction. After playing Lois Lane in Superman and the Mole Men
(1951), she was the first to play Lois in the TV series, The
Adventures of Superman (1952). Her numerous TV guest appearances in
later years included the role of Lois Lane's mother in the TV series Lois
and Clark (1994). Coates shares the suspicion that TV Superman George
Reeves was a murder victim, not a suicide. But she rejects the interpretation
offered in the film Hollywoodland (2007). Multiple mailing folds. Fine
condition.
