Phyllis Coates, born Gypsie Ann Evarts Stell in Wichita Falls, Texas in 1927, starred in many B-movies of the 1950s, often westerns and science fiction. This photo image reminds us that Coates started out as a chorus girl She appeared in dozens of the "Joe McDoakes" comedy shorts with actor George O'Hanlon (1948-1956). After playing Lois Lane in Superman and the Mole Men (1951, the first woman cast opposite George Reeves in a Superman movie), she was the first to play Lois in the TV series, The Adventures of Superman (1952). Her numerous TV guest appearances in later years included the role of Lois Lane's mother in the TV series Lois and Clark (1994). Corners lightly worn. Fine condition.
