Picture Postcard signed: "Phyllis Dare", 3½x5½, captioned
below. British actress Phyllis Dare (1890-1975) first appeared on stage
(age 9) at the Cornet Theatre in Babes in the Woods, her sister Zena was
also cast in the production. She continued to work regularly for the next few
years. After taking a few years off to study, she was fully active again by
1905. At age 17, she published her autobiography From School to Stage.
Known for her Edwardian musical comedy roles, she managed a few films such
as Argentine Tango and Other Dances (1913), The Common Law (1923)
and the last, Gildersleeve on Broadway (1943). Dare's last performance
was on stage in King's Rhapsody that opened in 1949 and ran for 2 years,
where she again worked with her sister Zena. Paper and adhesive residue
(previous mounting) on verso-light show through. Lightly soiled at margins.
