Signature: "P D James", on a 4x2½ book page. Phyllis Dorothy James "P.D."(1920-2014), is an English crime writer most famous for a series of
non-fiction detective novels with the protagonist policeman and poet Adam
Dalgliesh. She began writing in the 1950's and her first book Cover
Her Face featured Dalgiesh. She also worked in hospital
administration and later within the criminal section of the U.K.'s Home
Office. During the 1980's some of her novels were adapted for television for
the U.K. ITV network. Her 1992 novel The Children of Men was made into
a feature film with Julianne Moore, Michael Caine and Clive Owen in 2006. In
all, she wrote fourteen Adam Dalgliesh mysteries and a few other books like
An Unsuitable Job for a Women (1972) and Innocent
Blood (1980). In 1999 she was awarded the Grandmaster Award by the
Mystery Writers of America. 4x2½ book page. Irregularly
