Typed Letter signed: "Pierce Brosnan" as Event Host, in black ink, 1p, 8½x11. Studio City,
California, 1994 April 18. On letterhead of Revlon Run/Walk for Women to
actress/comedienne Phyllis Diller. In full: "Recently I lost my wife to Ovarian Cancer. Today,
there is no greater urgency in my life than to help those people working to achieve a cure or relief
for the forms of cancer afflicting women. The Permanent Charities Committee of the
Entertainment Industries has created the Revlon Run/Walk for Women to bring together
thousands of caring people with the power of the entertainment industry in an effort to raise a
loud voice of concern and awareness for breast and ovarian cancer. I invite you to join me on
Saturday, May 7th for this special event beginning from the backlot of Fox Studios. There are
many running and walking events in LA to choose from - all with important issues, for the sake of
women everywhere please count the Revlon Run/Walk for Women among the events you choose to
participate in. You [sic] participation in the 5 kilometer event will take up just one Saturday
morning - but to the thousands of women in Los Angeles and around the country who have and
who will bravely battle breast & ovarian cancer - one Saturday morning could mean so much.
The Revlon Run/Walk for Women is a chance to do something special for women. A bracing
run/walk in the company of other caring people is a marvelous way to express our concern. With
sincere thanks". Irish-born actor PIERCE BROSNAN (b. 1953) gathered
experience on the London stage before making his film debut in The Long
Good Friday (1980). After playing television detective Remington Steele
(1982-1987), he moved easily into the role of James Bond with Golden Eye
(1995). Brosnan was the fifth actor to portray 007. He followed it up with
three more Bond films: Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), The World is Not
Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002) before being replaced. Brosnan
has played dapper con men such as in The Tailor of Panama (2001) as well as the
straight man in comedies like Mrs. Doubtfire (1993). In a role a little outside
of his comfort zone, he sang in a few musical numbers in the hit musical film
Mamma Mia! (2008). Brosnan's first wife was Australian actress Cassandra Harris,
who died of ovarian cancer at age 50 in 1991. Comedienne Phyllis Diller (1917-2012) was
known for her outrageous appearance, zany outfits, and distinctive laugh. Her stand-up
act featured frequent references to her fictional husband, "Fang", and zingers about her
sex appeal and numerous plastic surgeries. She got her big break in March 1955 (at age 37),
when she debuted at San Francisco's Purple Onion club. A subsequent appearance on The
Tonight Show hosted by Jack Paar launched her national career, which got a big boost
after Bob Hope saw Diller in a Washington, D.C. club. A favorite of the comedian, Diller
would appear in three of Hope's films and 23 of his TV specials. Diller, who recorded her
first comedy record album in 1959, took her groundbreaking "funny hausfrau" act to
nightclubs and television variety shows and specials. She also appeared on the big screen; her
feature film credits include Splendor in the Grass (1961), The Fat Spy (1966), Boy, Did I Get
a Wrong Number!(1966), The Sunshine Boys (1975) and The Silence of the Hams (1994),
and she provided the voice of the Queen in A Bug's Life (1998). By 2000 the comedienne,
who had trained as a concert pianist before her marriage (1939-1965) to Sherwood Anderson
Diller, had appeared as a piano soloist with 100 symphony orchestras across the U.S.
Despite retiring from nightclub/stage tours in May 2002 at the age of 84, Diller
continued to make films (Motocross Kids, 2004; Forget About It, 2005) and occasionally
appear on TV programs, including two episodes of 7th Heaven (2002, 2003) and a guest
spot on The Wayne Brady Show (2004). Lightly creased and soiled. Otherwise, fine
condition.
