PIERRE LOTI The novelist replies to a fan's inquiry on black-bordered paper Autograph Letter Signed: "P. Loti", 2p, 4¼x6¼. No place, no date. "It's easy to respond to you, sir, with complete sincerity. I'm not working on anything at the moment and I don't even have anything in the works. I'm simply taking it easy. /Salutations,". Pierre Loti (1850-1923) was a French novelist and naval officer. He spent some time in Tahiti as part of his navy training and his experiences on the island inspired him to write Rarahu (1880), which was reprinted as the Le Mariage de Loti. In 1883, he published the critically acclaimed and semi-autobiographical, a Mon Frère Yves a novel about a French naval officer and a Breton sailor. His most popular work is Pêcheur d'Islande (1886), a particularly interesting work in light of Loti's attempt to adapt popular painting style of the time. Two small tears on top edge, 1-inch tear along fold on bottom edge. Crease across center. Otherwise, fine condition.
