Typed Letter signed: "Pietro Card. Palazzini", 1 page, 5¾x8½. No
place, 1973 March 23. On personal stationery bearing his crest to
"Dear Marcus". In full: "I am appreciative of your
congratulations on the occasion of my designation to be Cardinal for which I am
deeply grateful to His Holiness Pope Paul VI. I accept your wishes and
appreciate them very willingly and humbly ask you to pray for me that I'll be
more committed in the service of the Church for the benefit of the People of
God. With every blessing, I am, Faithfully in Christ". Italian Catholic
prelate Pietro Cardinal Palazzini (1912-2006) was ordained a priest in 1934 and
became a bishop in 1962. The scholarly Palazzini served in the Roman Curia,
and wrote for Osservatore Romano and other Catholic publications. In 1985, the
State of Israel honored him as Yad Vashem (a Righteous Gentile) for saving
Jewish lives during World War II at the risk of his own. Horizontal fold.
