Photograph signed: "Best Wishes/Pinky Lee". B/w, 8x9¾. A comedian of vaudeville, burlesque and Broadway, Pinky Lee (1907-1993), born Pincus Leff, was instantly recognizable by his plaid jacket, checkered baggy pants and hat and pronounced lisp. The sometimes "over the top" comedian hosted several children's and variety TV shows during the 1950s, including The Pinky Lee Show (1950; 1954-1956) and The Gumby Show (1957). The 1986-1990 children's show, Pee Wee's Playhouse, was practically a carbon copy of Lee's show - from the set to the gags. Lee, who made his film debut in 1937, appeared in several movies and also made TV guest appearances, usually as himself. In his later years, he was a regular guest on The Ed Sullivan Show and Bob Hope specials, appeared on game shows and toured on the burlesque and dinner theater circuit. Fine condition.
