PINKY TOMLIN
Vintage photo in suit and hat, inscribed in person to collector Saul
Goodman. A rare signature!
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Saul -/Best wishes -/'Pinky'
Tomlin". B/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: February
28, 1936. Truman "Pinky" Tomlin (1907-1987), whose nicknamed derived from
his fair complexion, was a guitarist and band leader, occasional actor, and
popular song writer. His biggest song hit came early, "The Object of My
Affection" (1926), since covered by many artists, and the title of Tomlin's
autobiography (1981). That and other songs by Tomlin have been heard on
many film soundtracks over the years, beginning with One More Spring
(1935). Tomlin appeared in many of these films, and even played the title
role in one: Tickled Pinky (1940). He had a recurring role on the TV
series Waterfront (1954). Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York
business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making
friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album
leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign
in fountain pen. Corners worn and creased. Lightly toned around edges.
