PRELUDE TO A KISS PLAY CAST
Playbill cover signed by 10 cast members
Showbill inscribed and signed: "To David Strickland/John Randolph", "Ashley/Crow", "Monté Russell", "Craig Bockhorn", "Nick Gregory", "Leon A. Brown", 5¾x8½. Playbill for a production of Prelude to a Kiss at New York's Helen Hayes Theatre. The play, written by Craig Lucas, which garnered 3 Tony and 3 Drama Desk nominations, as well as a Theatre World Award, had previously been performed by the South Coast Repertory and Circle Repertory Companies. The version offered here was the Broadway premier, although signed later in the play's yearlong run (May 1990-1991). Several signers were replacement cast members. JOHN RANDOLPH (1915-2004), who took over the crucial role of "The Old Man" from Barnard Hughes, was performing in the last of his 30 Broadway plays dating back to a production of Coriolanus in 1938. Randolph, born Emmanuel Hirsch Cohen, was co-founder with his actress wife Sarah Cunningham of the Ensemble Studio Theatre. ASHLEY CROW, a replacement "Rita" in the play offered here, has become a very familiar star on TV. Recurring roles since the late 1980s include the series Probe, Champs and Turks. Most recently she has portrayed Sandra Bennett on Heroes (2006-2010) and Jane Blake on The Secret Circle (2011-2012). MONTÉ RUSSELL, originally an understudy in three roles, would take over two supporting roles ("Tom" and "The Minister"). Russell appeared in another Broadway play, King Hedley II, a decade later. He is better known for his TV roles, however, especially that of Dwight Zadro on 118 episodes of ER (1995-2009), billed there as Montae Williams. CRAIG BOCKHORN, the original Minister in this play, made another Broadway appearance in a revival of On Golden Pond. He has made many TV guest appearances since 2002, featured often on crime dramas, including all three Law & Order series and Person of Interest (2012). NICK GREGORY has no known Broadway credits. He must have been a late replacement on this production. He has begun to compile a strong TV resume over the past two decades, however, beginning with the mini-series A Woman Called Jackie (1991). Like many aspiring stage actors, he has appeared often on daytime soaps (Another World, All My Children) and New York-based crime dramas (Law & Order, Blue Bloods). LEON ADDISON BROWN went on to appear in Broadway revivals of On the Waterfront and The Trip to Bountiful. His film roles include Spike Lee's Mo' Better Blues (1996) and an un-credited role as a US Army private in Lincoln (2012). TV guest spots include Law & Order, Person of Interest and The Good Wife. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
