August 8. On letterhead of the Premier's Office to Mr. Danny Franklin,
Sunnyslope, Arizona. In full: "Thank you for your letter of July 28th.
I am very pleased to forward to you an autographed photo of myself, together
with a short biography which I trust will be of some value to you. I am also
forwarding, as you requested, the names, terms and addresses of former
Premiers of the Province [Campbell then lists the names, terms and
address of Thane A. Campbell, Alexander W. Matheson and Walter R. Shaw]". The
letter concludes: "Trusting this to be satisfactory, I remain Yours very
truly". Photograph and biography not present. Alexander Bradshaw Campbell
(born in 1933) was Premier of Prince Edward Island from 1966-1978, when
he left office to serve on the Supreme Court of the Province. Campbell,
the son of former PEI Premier Thane A. Campbell, was, at age 33, one of
the youngest Premiers ever elected in Canada. He had entered politics in 1965,
and he became the leader of the PEI Liberal Party that year. Slightly
creased with fold, not at signature. Paper clip impression and stain at upper
right margin, light paper clip impression at lower right margin. Fine
condition.
