"Naturally I was pleased to receive your very kind letter of September
22nd in which you comment about my period of office in the Province of Manitoba.
While I do not have a photograph at hand that I can send as you request, I am
very glad to be able to give you my autograph by means of this letter. With all
good wishes, Yours sincerely". First elected to the provincial legislature
in 1949, businessman/politician Dufferin "Duff" Roblin was Premier of
Manitoba 1958-1967, an office which had also been held by his grandfather,
Sir Rodmond P. Roblin. He made a bid for national leadership of the Progressive
Conservative Party in 1967, but ran second to Robert Stanfield. Named to the
Canadian Senate by Prime Minister Trudeau, he was Leader of the Government in
the Senate under Prime Minister Mulroney (1984-1986). A Wing Commander in
the Royal Canadian Air Force throughout World War II, Roblin was the oldest
living former premier as of 2006. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine
condition.
