EDWARD SCHREYER. Picture Post Card signed: "Ed Schreyer"
as Premier of Manitoba on verso. Color, 5½x3½. Front depicts "Shield of
the Arms/of the Province of/Manitoba". 10-cent Canadian stamp affixed,
postmarked Winnipeg, Manitoba, August 25 1972. Captioned at upper left
margin of verso, which has typed address to a collector in Phoenix, Arizona.
Edward Richard Schreyer (born in 1935) was Premier of Manitoba from
1969-1977 and Governor General of Canada from 1979-1984. A member of the
New Democratic Party of Canada, Schreyer ran unsuccessfully for election to the
House of Commons in 2006 (he was the first former Governor General in the
country's history to try for the seat). Formerly a Professor of International
Relations at St. Paul's College at the University of Manitoba (1962-1965),
Schreyer was later appointed Canadian High Commissioner to Australia,
Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu (1984-1988). He has also been
active in a number of charitable causes, including Habitat for Humanity.
Slightly creased at corners. Postal impressions lightly show through to front.
