ERIC REECE
The Tasmanian Premier signed this typed letter for a prodigious collector of autographs
Typed Letter signed: "Eric Reece" in blue ink. Snippings from the letter and various related newspaper clippings are adhered to a 6½x9½ sheet. The letter is dated May 29, 1972. Text in Full: "I was so interested in your letter of May 8th and the accompanying Press clippings that I took the liberty of giving some details to Tasmanian newspapers as you will see from the enclosed. / Perhaps you would care to send me a photograph of yourself so that Tasmanians may have the pleasure of seeing the man responsible for such a prodigious collection". Eric Reece (1909-1999) served as Tasmania's Premier on two separate occasions: from 1958 to 1969, and again from 1972 to 1975. Due to his electrical power initiatives, he was nicknamed "Electric Eric". His loss of the premiership in 1969 ended 35 years of Labor Party government on the island, but the party regained control three years later. After his retirement in 1975, he remained involved in politics, supporting various interest groups and candidates. Irregularly cut. Newspaper clippings toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
