ERIC REECE
The Tasmanian Premier signed a typed letter thanking a collector of autographs for some
documents about the Australian War
Typed Letter signed: "Eric Reece" in blue ink. Snippings from the letter and a second letter
from W.R. Lancaster, signed by his unidentified assistant, are adhered to an 8x9½ sheet. The
letter is dated September 26, 1972. Text in Full: "I have received your parcel containing two
sets of microfilm and a cassette recording concerning prisoner of war activities and other things.
Your thoughtfulness in forwarding these items to me is appreciated". Eric Reece (1909-1999)
served as Tasmania's Premier on two separate occasions: from 1958 to 1969, and again
from 1972 to 1975. Due to his electrical power initiatives, he was nicknamed "Electric Eric".
His loss of the premiership in 1969 ended 35 years of Labor Party government on the
island, but the party regained control three years later. After his retirement in 1975, he
remained involved in politics, supporting various interest groups and candidates. Irregular cut.
Holes punched in large sheet on right side. Otherwise, fine condition.
