GERALD A. REGAN. Picture Post Card signed: "Gerald A.
Regan" on verso. Color, 5½x3½. Front depicts the "Shield of the Arms/of the
Province of/Nova Scotia". Captioned at upper left margin on verso. 10-cent
Canadian stamp afixed, not postmarked. Gerald A. Regan, a labor lawyer, rose
through provincial and federal Canadian legislature to become Premier of Nova
Scotia (1970-1978). Although voted out of office after two terms, he was
elected to Canada's Parliament and became Minister of State for International
Trade in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau (1980-1984). In
1995, Regan was indicted for rape and a long series of sexual offenses against
dozens of women, alleged to have been committed while he held high office.
Regan was alleged to have groped and otherwise assaulted women as young as
14, ranging from babysitters to job applicants. A jury acquitted Regan in
1998; more charges were filed in 1999, but after several rounds of litigation
the charges were dropped in 2002. Regan's son was a Cabinet Minister in
the Liberal Government of 2003-2006. One of his daughters is an actress, the
other a well-known Canadian TV personality. Slightly creased. Stray ink marks to
right of signature. Minor impressions (not evident head on) on front. Fine
condition.
