A handwritten and autographed note by Malta's third President, Agatha Barbara.
Autograph Note signed: "To/Henry Slapinski/my best wishes/for/Long Life and Good
Health/Agatha Barbara/Malta", 6x4. An air raid warden during World War II and a
subsequently a teacher, Agatha Barbara (1923-2002) became the first woman elected to the
Parliament of Malta (1947), winning 10 consecutive elections and serving until 1981. A
member of the Labour Party, she served twice as Education Minister (1955-1958,
1971-1974), and was sentenced to 43 days of "hard labor" for picketing during the national
general strike which followed the resignation of Prime Minister Dom Mintoff (1958). She
became the third President of Malta (1982-1987). Fine condition.
