Manuscript Letter Signed: "Benj Harrison", 1p, 5x7½. Indianapolis, Indiana, 1895 December 12.To New York City Mayor William L. Strong.In full: "I have your invitation to attend the Annual Banquet of the Ohio Society of New York on the evening of January 11th, and to make an address. I regret to say that it will not be possible for me to accept this kind invitation." Ohio-born Republican BENJAMIN HARRISON had been President from 1889-1893. Republican WILLIAM L. STRONG was Mayor of New York from 1895-1897. Totally separated at mid-horizontal fold touching some letters (all intact). Lower half of vertical fold separated touching the "H" in Harrison. All are professionally re-attached with conservator's tape on verso and are encapsulated. Lightly soiled. Tackhead-size stain at upper margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
