The President directs that congratulations be sent on an Austrian Archduke's wedding.
Presidential Warrant signed: "Benj Harrison" as President, 1p, 6x6½. Washington, 1889 December 14. In full: "I hereby authorize and direct the Secretary of State [James G. Blaine] to cause the Seal of the United States to be affixed to envelope containing my letter addressed to His Majesty Francis Joseph Emperor of Austria, &c., on the marriage of His Royal Highness the Archduke Leopold Salvator with Her Royal Highness Princess Doña Blanca of Bourbon, dated this day and signed by me and for so doing this shall be his warrant." ARCHDUKE LEOPOLDSALVATOR'S younger brother was married to Emperor Francis Joseph's daughter. On October 24, 1889, Archduke Leopold Salvator (1863-1931) married Blanca von Kastil, Princess of Bourbon. After the establishment of the Republic of Austria in 1918, Leopold Salvator renounced all titles and claims, dropped all military honors and assumed a normal life as a grocer in downtown Vienna. Irregularly trimmed. Encapsulated. Fine condition.
