Scarce signed, handwritten letter as Lieutenant Governor (1918)
Scarce Autograph Letter Signed: "Calvin Coolidge" as Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, 1 page, 7¼x10¼. Boston, 1918 January 1. Harding's future Vice President and 30th U.S. President writes to Walter Gilman Page, Boston. In full: "Please accept my thanks for the information in your note. I am waiting the report. With the compliments of the season." On blue printed stationery with state seal. Later in 1918, Coolidge was elected Governor. Two years later, he was elected Vice President, succeeding to the presidency when Harding died in 1923. While ALSs as lawyer at the turn of the century appear on the market from time to time, handwritten letters of Coolidge of this later period are scarce. Walter Gilman Page (1862-1934) was a Boston portrait and landscape painter. Mounting stain and remnant at right edge on verso with show-through. Lightly wrinkled at upper left corner, else in fine condition.
