CALVIN COOLIDGE
Writing from Chicago's Blackstone Hotel, site of the famous "smoke-filled room" made famous in 1920, he signs a lengthy autograph note on family matters, adding "Shall reach Northampton next Sunday so as to vote in primary."

On October 4, 1905, Calvin Coolidge and Grace Goodhue were married in Burlington, Vermont. In August 1906, Coolidge rented half of the double house at 21 Massasoit Street in Northampton, Massachusetts. On September 7, 1906, the Coolidges' first son, John (1906-2000), was born at home. On April 13, 1908, Calvin ("Cal") Coolidge, Jr. (1908-1924) was born; he died in 1924 of blood poisoning resulting from a blister on his foot. The Coolidges later bought the duplex. They returned to 21 Massasoit Street after leaving the White House in 1929, moving to The Beeches on Hampton Terrace in Northampton on May 17, 1930. Coincidentally, it was at The Blackstone in Chicago, on June 12, 1920, in a smoke-filled room, that a group of U.S. Senators and Republican Party leaders met and selected Ohio Senator Warren G. Harding as their presidential candidate. Massachusetts Governor Coolidge was then nominated for Vice President. Lightly creased and soiled. Fine condition.
