CALVIN COOLIDGE
Large 9x12 sepia-toned bust view photograph of Coolidge in a dark suit-and-tie, signed and dated "With best wishes" in November of 1921, when we was vice president under President Warren G. Harding.
Inscribed photograph signed "To Barbara Hight/With best wishes/Nov 1921/Calvin Coolidge" in blue ink. With pencil notations in lower right corner in unknown hand. B/w sepia-toned, 9¾x12¼ overall, 6¾x9 image, one surface. After losing an election for School Committee in 1905, Coolidge (1872-1933, born in Plymouth, Vermont) never lost another one. He was Mayor of Northampton, Massachusetts (1910-1911), State Senator (1912-1915), Lieutenant Governor (1916-1918), Governor (1919-1920), vice president (1921-1923) and president (1923-1929). "Silent Cal," as he was called for his economy of speech, succeeded to the Presidency upon the death of Warren Harding and won election to his own full term in 1924. Encapsulated in Mylar. Lightly toned. Pen skipped while signing signature in places but is legible. Encapsulation is scuffed and scratched over image. Adhesive residue on verso (no show-through). Otherwise in fine condition.
