CALVIN COOLIDGE
Calvin Coolidge signs a check to Alice Reckahn for $15.00.
Check signed: "Calvin Coolidge", 8¼x3. Northampton, Massachusetts, 1932 April 29. Check No. 1001, drawn on the Northampton National Bank and Trust Company, payable to Alice Reckahn for $15.00. Endorsed: "Alice Reckahn/Rena E. Traplagen" on verso. Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933) had become the 30th U.S. President upon the death of Warren G. Harding in 1923. Elected to a term in his own right in 1924, Coolidge did not seek another term in 1928, leaving office in 1929. Coolidge, who retired to Northampton after leaving the presidency, had begun his law and political career there. After losing an election for School Committee in 1905, he never lost another race. Before becoming President, Coolidge had served as Mayor of Northampton, Massachusetts (1910-1911), a Massachusetts State Senator (1912-1915), Lieutenant Governor (1916-1918) and Governor of Massachusetts (1919-1920) and U.S. Vice President (1921-1923). Slightly creased. Bank cancellation holes near but not touching signature. Ink slightly smudged at the "in" of Calvin. Overall, fine condition.
