Typed Letter Sigend: "Calvin Coolidge" as President, 1 page, 7x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1929 March 1. To Rufus N. Hemenway, New Britain, Conn. In full: "I was very glad to get your good letter of February 28, and to hear something of you and the family. The many friendly messages of good will and sincere appreciation, coming to me at this time are most gratifying. I am hoping to see more of Vermont in the future than I have for some years past." Written by Coolidge three days before his former Secretary of Commerce, Herbert Hoover, was sworn in to succeed him. Coolidge was born in Plymouth, Vermont. Coolidge and Rufus Hemenway had been friends since their days as classmates at Black River Academy, a private preparatory school in Rutland, Vermont. Stray ink mark at right margin (same color ink as signature). Fine condition.
