CALVIN COOLIDGE
Typed letter signed as Vice President, addressed to Carnegie Institute, looking forward to a visit to Pittsburgh.
Typed Letter Signed: "Calvin Coolidge" as Harding's Vice President, 1 page, 7x9. Washington, 1921 April 6. To Mr. S.H. Church, Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh. In full: "I have your kind favor of recent date, and your several books which will be very helpful to me. I am looking forward with a great deal of pleasure to visiting your city, especially as it is so closely associated with Secretary Mellon, Secretary Davis and Senator Knox." SAMUEL HARDIN CHURCH was Secretary of the Carnegie Institute and President of the Board of Trustees. Also an author, he was a grandson of Sir Walter Scott. Today, Carnegie Institute of Technology is one of seven schools within Carnegie Mellon University, a world-class research university with 10,000 students and 4,000 faculty and staff. Secretary of the Treasury ANDREW MELLON, Secretary of Labor JAMES J. DAVIS and Pennsylvania Senator PHILANDER C. KNOX each called Pittsburgh home. When Coolidge became 30th U.S. President upon Harding's death in 1923, he kept Mellon and Davis in his Cabinet until he left the White House in 1929. Lightly creased at blank margins. Fine condition.
