CALVIN COOLIDGE
The President signs a typed letter thanking a letter-writer for supporting his administration.
Typed Letter Signed: "Calvin Coolidge" as 30th U.S. President, 1 page, 7x9. Washington, D.C., 1925 April 6. On letterhead of "The White House" to Colonel Archibald Hopkins, Washington, D.C. In full: "Please accept my thanks for your kind note which has been handed to me this morning and with which you enclosed some very interesting clippings. It is gratifying to know that you approve of the course of the administration and I appreciate your thought in writing to tell me so. Very truly yours". "Silent Cal," as he was called for his economy of speech, succeeded to the Presidency upon the death of Warren Harding, and he won election to a full term in his own right in November 1924. Coolidge had been inaugurated on March 4, 1925, just a month before he signed this letter. After losing an election for School Committee in 1905, Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933) never lost another one. He was Mayor of Northampton, Massachusetts (1910-1911), Massachusetts State Senator (1912-1915), Lieutenant Governor (1916-1918) and Governor (1919-1920) of Massachusetts, Harding's Vice President (1921-1923) and President (1923-1929). Slightly creased with fold, not at signature. Slightly soiled at blank margins. Fine condition.
