CALVIN COOLIDGE
Signed, typed letter as President extending thanks for remembrances of the early days of Vermont, the President's birthplace.
Typed Letter Signed: "Calvin Coolidge" as 30th U.S. President, 1 page, 7x9. The White House, Washington, 1924 June 5. To Victor P. Laning, Hudson, N.Y. In full: "Thank you very much for sending to me the extremely interesting remembrance of the early days in Vermont. I shall prize it and the kind thought which prompted the gift." The rural village of Plymouth Notch, Vermont is the birthplace and boyhood home of Calvin Coolidge. Virtually unchanged for 100 years, the homes of Calvin Coolidge's family and neighbors, the community church, one-room schoolhouse and general store have been carefully preserved and many still have their original furnishings. Five days after President Coolidge wrote this letter, the Republican National Convention opened in Cleveland and nominated him for President. He chose not to run for President in 1928 and died in 1933. President and Mrs. Coolidge are buried in Notch Cemetery, Plymouth Notch, Vermont. Lightly creased. Soiled at blank margins. Fine condition.
