CALVIN COOLIDGE
He signs a typed letter thanking the U.S. Ambassador to France for congratulations on the Coolidges' 20th wedding anniversary.
Typed Letter Signed: "Calvin Coolidge" as 30th U.S. President, 1 page, 7x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1925 October 8. To Hon. Myron T. Herrick, Cleveland, Ohio. In full: "It was kind of you to remember us and to send your good wishes and congratulations on our anniversary. It was a real pleasure to see you while you were here." In a handwritten postscript signed "C", the President adds: "When are you coming to visit us?" When the President wrote this letter, Herrick was the U.S. Ambassador to France (1912-1914, 1921-1929). On October 4, 1905, 33-year-old Calvin Coolidge and 26-year-old Grace Anna Goodhue had been married in Burlington, Vermont. Myron T. Herrick (1854-1929), a former Republican Governor of Ohio (1904-1906), was a very successful ambassador. In 1914, with the German army threatening Paris, he earned the admiration of the French by remaining in Paris while the French government, and most of the diplomatic corps, relocated to Bordeaux. In May 1927, he organized the triumphal tour for Charles Lindbergh, who had landed in France after the first solo flight across the Atlantic. Slightly creased. Fine condition.
