Two and a half months before his death, Coolidge signs a typed letter to the President of New York Life praising his plan as "first rate."
Typed Letter signed: "Calvin Coolidge", 1 page, 8x11. Northampton, Massachusetts, 1932 October 24. On personal letterhead to Thomas A. Buckner, New York City. In full: "I think the plan outlined in your letter of October 21st is first rate and I hope that you can work out a method of putting it into effect. With kindest regards, I am, Very truly yours". Accompanied by unsigned White House envelope to same addressess. After losing an election for School Committee in 1905, Calvin Coolidge (1872-1933) never lost another one. He was Mayor of Northampton, Massachusetts (1910-1911), State Senator (1912-1915), Lieutenant Governor (1916-1918), Governor (1919-1920), Vice President (1921-1923) and President (1923-1929). "Silent Cal," as he was called for his economy of speech, succeeded to the Presidency upon the death of Warren Harding and won election to his own full term in 1924. Retired from the Presidency, Coolidge served on the Board of Directors of the New York Life Insurance Company and had frequent correspondence with Thomas A. Buckner, who had become the Company's President in March 1931. Coolidge died at his Northampton home on January 5, 1933. Pinhole at top center. Otherwise, fine condition.
