The President signs a typed letter sending holiday greetings to a Northampton lady and expressing concern about his mother-in-law's health.
Typed Letter Signed: "Calvin Coolidge" as 30th U.S. President, 1 page, 7x9. The White House, Washington, 1927 December 22. To Mrs. Alice Reckahn, Northampton, Mass. In full: "Enclosed is a little gift for you, and we both hope that you will have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. We have been quite anxious about mother Goodhue, but think she is better now." Calvin Coolidge and Grace Anna Goodhue were married in 1905 at the Burlington, Vermont, home of Grace's parents, mechanical engineer Andrew Isaachar Goodhue (1848-1923) and Lemira Barrett Goodhue (1849-1929). The First Lady's mother, referred to in this letter by President Coolidge as "mother Goodhue", died two years later at the age of 80. Lightly creased. Folds, horizontal fold touches the top flourishes of both "C"s and the "l" in Coolidge. Vertical fold touches the flourish of the "C" and the "in" in Calvin. Stray ink mark touches 1 word of text. Ink stains at left blank areas. Stained on verso of integral leaf (no show-through).
