As a Major of infantry in 1925, Ike signs a sergeant's re-enlistment papers.
Typed Document Signed: "D.D. Eisenhower" as Major, Infantry, 1 page, 8x10½. Recruiting Office, Fort Logan, Colorado, 1925 May 2. On tan paper to Commanding Officer, Detachment Quartermaster Corps, Post. In full: "201. Klees, Isaac N. (Enl.) 5th Ind. 1. Attention invited to 3rd indorsement. 2. Sgt. Klees will present this letter to the Recruiting Officer as authority for his reenlistment for Fort Bliss, Texas." Related fourth and sixth endorsements above and below Eisenhower's order. Typed DS: "E.M. Starr", as 1st Lieutenant 38th Infantry,Adjutant above and Typed DS: "P.A. Hodapp", as Captain, QMC, Commanding below. Eisenhower, a 1915 West Point graduate, was promoted to Major in 1920 and remained at that grade for 16 years in the drastically reduced post-World War I Army. In 1924, he was relieved from duty with the Infantry and placed under the Adjutant General's office, which assigned him to recruiting duty at Fort Logan, a suburb of Denver, where "Ike" signed this order. In August 1925, Eisenhower, who wanted to broaden his military experience, received an appointment to the Command and General Staff School, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (1925-1926). He graduated first in a class of 275. Light smudge at top of "E" of "Eisenhower". Receipt stamping touches "hower". Lightly creased, 1-inch tear in left blank margin at mid-horizontal fold. Paperclip impression in upper blank margin, light clip rust stains in blank left margin and on verso. Overall, fine condition.
