This photograph was taken on October 12, 1958, as President Eisenhower laid the cornerstone for The Interchurch Center in New York City. A crowd of more than 30,000 watched the ceremony in front of the banners of 37 Protestant and Eastern Orthodox communions. In his address, the President described the cornerstone as symbolizing a "prime support of our faith, the Truth that sets men free". Pictured with Eisenhower is DR. ROY G. ROSS, General Secretary of the National Council of Churches. Mounted to heavy board. Image is creased. 1 vertical crease touches the "h" in Eisenhower. Mount is lightly soiled, touching inscription and signature.
