DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER
Dwight D. Eisenhower sends a medallion of thanks for the support during his campaign.
Typed Letter Signed: "D.E." as President, 1p, 7x8¾. The White House, Washington, 1956 December 17. To Robert Cutler, The White House Office. In full: "The attached medallion [not present] is merely a token of the appreciation Mrs. Eisenhower and I have for all the hard work and long hours you devoted to the political campaign of 1956. It also brings to you our best wishes for a happy holiday season, and warm regard." In the November 6, 1956, election, the first time a Republican President and his Vice President were re-elected, the Eisenhower-Nixon ticket defeated Democrats Stevenson and Kefauver in a landside, 457-73 electoral votes. Brigadier General ROBERT CUTLER (1895-1974) was the nation's first Special Assistant for National Security Affairs for President Eisenhower from 1953-1955 and 1957-1958. Glue stains on verso with heavy show through in upper third of letter behind "The White House/Washington" and "December 17, 1956". Lightly soiled.
