Photograph signed: "Ernest de la Guardia", in blue ink, B/w 4x5 President of Panama from
1956 to 1960, Ernesto de la Guardia, Jr. (1904-1983) became embroiled in controversies
with the U.S. over interpretations of the 1955 Canal Zone treaty. However, in 1959, with
help from the United States and 19 other American continent republics, he survived an
attempted coup supported by Fidel Castro and Roberto Arias, nephew of Arnulfo Arias.
Lightly toned. Corners slightly worn and creased. Ink stamp on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
