Partly Printed Document signed: "Franklin D. Roosevelt", 1 page, 6x3¾. Marion, Massachusetts, no date, but circa 1925. To Marine Research Society, Saleem [sic], Massachusetts. Printed text with FDR's handwritten additions italicized: "Enclosed please find $10.00 for which send me prepaid 1 copies of Special Paper Edition of SHIP MODELS: HOW TO BUILD THEM." Always a lover of the sea, President Roosevelt, a builder and collector of model ships, kept ship models around him at his homes including Hyde Park and the White House. His ship model collection is on display at the FDR Library in Hyde Park. The book FDR has ordered here, Ship Models: How to Build Them, by Charles G. Davis, remains in print today. Roosevelt spent several months, beginning in August 1925, in Marion, Massachusetts, receiving therapy from Dr. William McDonald for his legs, paralyzed since the onset of polio in 1921. Jagged at upper edge from being torn. Fold crease not near signature. Ink notes (unknown hand) at left margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
