FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT. Engraved Card signed: "Franklin D Roosevelt" as Governor of New York, 4¾x2¾. Engraved: "State of New York/Executive Mansion/Albany". Gold embossed seal of the state of New York at upper left margin. As Governor of New York (1929-1933), Franklin D. Roosevelt (1882-1945) promoted judicial reform, the development of hydroelectric power and affordable energy rates for consumers. In response to the Great Depression (1929-1939), which left one out of every four American workers unemployed, he implemented state relief programs, which proved to be the basis of his presidential New Deal legislation. Roosevelt's popularity as Governor, evidenced by his landslide win for re-election in 1930, escalated after his investigation of James J. Walker forced the corrupt New York City Mayor to resign (1932). After solidly defeating Herbert Hoover in the 1932 presidential election, Roosevelt, who would be elected to a record four terms in office (1933-1945), spent his first "Hundred Days" in the Oval Office stabilizing the banking crisis and initiating his economic relief, recovery and reform programs. During WWII (1939-1945), the 32nd U.S. President aided the British with his Lend-Lease Program and devised Allied strategy to assure military victories over Germany and Japan. Slightly soiled. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 18x21½.
