FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT
In 1927, FDR signed this letter to Dwight L. "Hoopy" Hoopingarner, asking the necessity of attending a meeting. He added a handwritten note at the bottom giving Hoopy an open invitation to visit.
Typed letter signed: "FDR" as Vice President of Fidelity and Deposit Company of Maryland, New York City, 1 page, 7¼x10¼, on Fidelity and Deposit Company stationery. Warm Springs, Georgia, April 4, 1927. Addressed to "Hoopy". In full: "Dear Hoopy: I don't think there is a chance of my getting back to New York until May 15th. Is there any real necessity of my being present at the Construction Council meeting? We would have nothing more definite on the mortgage bond committee by that time. However, if you think I should be there why not call the meeting for the week before Memorial Day? Always sincerely yours," Handwritten below signature: "Let me know when & if you are down/again - Latch-string is hung/out for you." "Hoopy" is probably Dwight L. Hoopingarner, an officer of the American Construction Council. He and Roosevelt, who later called him "Hoopy" in letters as Governor and President, became good friends. Encapsulated in plastic. Lightly toned and creased. Page is folded horizontally twice and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
