Typed Letter Signed: "Franklin D. Roosevelt" as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, 1p, 7x9¼. Washington, 1915 June 29. To Hon. Clayton L. Wheeler, Chairman, Democratic Committee, Hancock, N.Y. In full: "I enclose [not present] a list of those found eligible by the Civil Service Commission for appointment as postmaster at Granton. The names are given in the order of their eligibility. I am anxious to make a recommendation to the Post Office Department, and am asking you to let me know if there is any objection that can be used under the civil service rules to the first name on the list. If the Department does not hear to the contrary I understand that the first name on the list will be appointed on July 5th." FDR had served in the New York State Senate from 1911 to March 17, 1913 when he resigned to become Wilson's Assistant Secretary of the Treasury. CLAYTON L.
