Acknowledgment of the appointment of Bernard Gotlieb as U.S. Consul in Santiago de Cuba. GOTLIEB had previously served as U.S. Consul in Tehran (Iran) and Wellington (New Zealand). FULGENCIO BATISTA y ZALDIVAR (1901-1973) led the coup that deposed provisional Cuban President Carlos de Céspedes y Quesada in 1933. As dictator, he controlled the government from 1933-1940, when he assumed the title of President of Cuba (1940-1944). He retired in 1944 but returned to power by an army coup in 1952. His regime was overthrown by Fidel Castro in 1959. Creased, not at signature. Torn upper and lower edges. Folds, not at signature.
