GEORGE BUSH
A rare autographed letter signed as Vice President, sending a get well message and New
Year's wishes for 1982, also accompanied by the original envelope with Bush's
rubber-stamped frank.
Rare Autograph Letter Signed: "George Bush" as Vice President, 1 page, 6¼x4 blue-bordered
card. Washington, 1982 January 1. To Col. Leonard Rosenthal, Atlantic City, New Jersey.
In full: "I am very sorry you have been sick. We got your Christmas note. Barbara joins me in
wishing you all the best for '82." Fine condition. With original envelope bearing Bush's
rubber-stamped frank as Vice President. Lightly soiled. George Bush, born in 1924, was
Ronald Reagan's Vice President (1981-1989) before serving as 41st U.S. President
(1989-1993), the first incumbent Vice President to be elected President since 1836. He
oversaw a largely successful foreign policy, including the first Gulf War against Iraq,
Operation Desert Storm, and the 1989 invasion of Panama to depose General Manuel
Noriega. But he wasn't re-elected largely due to shortcomings in his domestic policy,
including a tax raise in 1990 after a campaign promise - the famous "Read my lips: No - new
- taxes" speech - not to raise them. His son, George W. Bush, became 43rd president in
2001 and served two terms. Two items.
