Sale Price $595.00
Writing as Vice President, he confides to a friend that interest rates are "killing a lot of people".
Autograph Letter Signed: "George" as Reagan's Vice President, 1p, 6¼x4¼ card. No place, July 17. To his friend and Republican politico, Cy (Laughter). In full: "Got yours of the 14th. If we get spending-tax bills through, interest rates should come down. They're killing a lot of people." George Bush had used cards of this size before taking office, introducing their use to the Vice Presidency and Presidency. When Reagan-Bush took office on January 20, 1981, the inflation rate had reached 11.2% and interest rates had soared to 20%. On July 29, 1981, Congress approved the Administration's proposed three-stage tax cut, at the time, the biggest in U.S. history, so most probably this letter was written in 1981, 12 days before the Congressional approval. 2 stray, light red pencil marks, not at signature. 2-inch horizontal crease at upper blank edge. Overall, fine condition.
