GEORGE BUSH and BARBARA BUSH.
George and Barbara Bush inscribe and sign a photograph.
Photograph signed: "George Bush" and "& Barbara Bush". Color, 7¾x9¾ overall, image 6x7½ (one surface). Inscribed in another hand: "To: Reuben Lorenz -". Navy pilot and Distinguished Flying Cross recipient GEORGE BUSH was a gallant WWII hero returning from the Pacific Theater when BARBARA PIERCE left Smith College to marry him in 1945. Strong-willed and dedicated to her husband, she held the Bush household of five children together through more than four decades, 68 countries and all 50 states while George worked as an oil industry executive, Texas Congressman, United Nations Ambassador, Republican Party Chairman, U.S.-China Liaison Office Chief, Central Intelligence Agency Director and Vice President. Their hard work paid off when Bush was elected as the 41st U.S. President in November 1988, the first incumbent Vice President to do so since Martin Van Buren in 1836. Besides leading the national fight against illiteracy, the First Lady offered invaluable support to the President throughout the long months of Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm (August 1990-March 1991). The couple's children include 43rd U.S. President George W. Bush and Florida Governor John Ellis "JEB" Bush. "B" of Barbara is overwritten, possibly due to a defect in the pen used to sign. Barbara Bush (1925-2018), with her sensible, down-to earth manner was an enormously popular First Lady. In addition to her many duties, she crusaded against illiteracy and supported programs to help the homeless and fight drug abuse. The first woman since Abigail Adams to be wife of one President and mother of another, she is the only First Lady to witness her son's presidential inauguration.Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 16¼x24¾.
