GEORGE HERBERT WALKER BUSH served as Ronald Reagan's Vice President from 1981-1989 before serving as 41st U.S. President (1989-1993). As Vice President, Bush led the nation while President Ronald Reagan recovered from an assassination attempt. He encouraged Blacks to become active members of the Republican Party, worked to deregulate business, promoted the use of alternate fuels and fought drug trafficking as head of the National Narcotics Border Interdiction System. Previously, Bush had served as a U.S. Representative from Texas (1967-1971) and as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (1976-1977). JAMES DANFORTH QUAYLE, a U.S. Representative (1977-1981) and U.S. Senator (1981-1989) from Indiana (he was the youngest person from the state ever elected to the latter post), was Vice President under George Bush from 1989-1993. He ran unsuccessfully for reelection in 1992. For a short time in 2000, Quayle was a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination. Two items. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 32½x23.
