GEORGE BUSH
George Bush writes a note of recommendation on Republican National Committee
letterhead.
Typed Note Signed: "George Bush" as Chairman of the Republican National Committee,
¼p, 7x10. Washington, D.C., 1973 July 2. On Republican National Committee letterhead,
"To Whom It May Concern". In full: "I have known Roy Winchester for approximately ten
years. In my dealings with him, I have found him to be honest and a man of good character. I can
recommend him to you without reservation." Appointed by President Nixon just before the
Watergate scandal, George Bush served as Chairman of the Republican National Committee
from 1973-1974. It later became Bush's responsibility to write to ask President Nixon to
resign. George Bush (1924-2018), was Ronald Reagan's Vice President (1981-1989) before
serving as 41st U.S. President (1989-1993), the first incumbent Vice President to be elected
President since 1836. He oversaw a largely successful foreign policy, including the first
Gulf War against Iraq, Operation Desert Storm, and the 1989 invasion of Panama to
depose General Manuel Noriega. But he wasn't re-elected largely due to shortcomings in his
domestic policy, including a tax raise in 1990 after a campaign promise - the famous "Read
my lips: No - new - taxes" speech - not to raise them. His son, George W. Bush, became
43rd president in 2001 and served two terms. Folds, horizontal fold touches the second "g"
in George. 2 file holes at upper blank margin. Fine condition.
