GEORGE W. BUSH Full color 10x8 photograph signed by the Presidential candidate on Election Day, November 7, 2000 Photograph signed: "George W. Bush". Color, 10x8. Taken on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7, 2000, as Texas Governor George W. Bush walks with his wife Laura, accompanied by the Secret Service, to the Travis County Courthouse in Austin to cast his vote for President (printed caption at right margin of photograph). That night, as votes were counted, the nation's eyes turned to Florida. Gore led in electoral votes 267-246 with 270 needed for election. The candidate who won in Florida with its 25 electoral votes would win the election. For the next month, votes were recounted in Florida and lawsuits were filed on both sides. Bush was slightly ahead. On December 9, 2000, the U.S. Supreme Court voted 5-4 to grant Bush's plea to halt hand recounts of ballots in Florida, votes Democrat Al Gore needs to win the Presidency, and said it would hear a Bush challenge to the recounts. On December 12th, the U.S. Supreme Court voted 7-2 to reverse a Florida Supreme Court ruling ordering recounts of ballots in the state, holding that the decision violates the U.S. Constitution's protections of equal protection under the law. The next day, Gore conceded the election to Bush. George W. Bush, born in 1946, worked on his father's successful 1988 presidential campaign before assembling the group of partners that purchased the Texas Rangers baseball franchise in 1989. He served as managing general partner of the Texas Rangers until he was elected Governor of Texas on November 8, 1994. Bush, who became the first Governor in Texas history to be elected to consecutive four-year terms when he was re-elected in 1998, resigned on December 21, 2000, having been elected 43rd President of the U.S. Reelected on November 2, 2004, Bush is the only U.S. President to be reelected after succeeding a two-term President of the opposing political party. Most recently, he paired up with fellow former Commander-in-Chief Bill Clinton to conduct an in-depth interview with Time magazine and regarding their plans for the coming year and their take on the 2016 election. This issue of Time with Clinton and himself on the cover will be the 31st cover he has been on since June 21, 1999. Fine condition.
