include everyone who occupied the office between January 15, 1969, when Preston Smith
took office, and December 21, 2000, when George W. Bush resigned the office prior to
assuming the office of President of the United States. The Governors were Preston Smith
(1969-1973), DOLPH BRISCOE (1973-1979), William P. Clements, Jr. (1979-1983,
1987-1991), Mark White (1983-1987), Ann Richards (1991-1995) and George W. Bush
(1995-2000). George W. Bush, born in 1946, worked on his father's successful 1988
presidential campaign before assembling the group of partners that purchased the Texas
Rangers baseball franchise in 1989. He served as managing general partner of the Texas
Rangers until he was elected Governor of Texas on November 8, 1994. Bush, who became
the first Governor in Texas history to be elected to consecutive four-year terms when he was
re-elected in 1998, resigned on December 21, 2000, having been elected 43rd President of
the U.S. Reelected on November 2, 2004, Bush is the only U.S. President to be reelected
after succeeding a two-term President of the opposing political party. Most recently, he
paired up with fellow former Commander-in-Chief Bill Clinton to conduct an in-depth
interview with Time magazine regarding their plans for the coming year and their take on the
2016 election. Since the June 21, 1999 edition of Time, Bush has been on 30 covers of the
magazine. Fine condition.
