GEORGE W. BUSH Signed address to the United States on September 11, 2001 Speech signed: "George W. Bush" as President, One page 8x7. Titled at upper right: "George W. Bush/September 11, 2001/The White House/Address to the Nation". Photograph of President Bush addressing the nation at upper left. Color, 1½x1½. At 8:30 P.M., President Bush addressed the nation from the Oval Office. This is the first half of his address. In full: "Good evening. Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes, or in their offices; secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers; moms and dads, friends and neighbors. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror. The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve. America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining. Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature. And we responded with the best of America -- with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could." George W. Bush, born in 1946, worked on his father's successful 1988 presidential campaign before assembling the group of partners that purchased the Texas Rangers baseball franchise in 1989. He served as managing general partner of the Texas Rangers until he was elected Governor of Texas on November 8, 1994. Bush, who became the first Governor in Texas history to be elected to consecutive four-year terms when he was re-elected in 1998, resigned on December 21, 2000, having been elected 43rd President of the U.S. Reelected on November 2, 2004, Bush is the only U.S. President to be reelected after succeeding a two-term President of the opposing political party. Most recently, he paired up with fellow former Commander-in-Chief Bill Clinton to conduct an in-depth interview with Time magazine regarding their plans for the coming year and their take on the 2016 election. Since the June 21, 1999 edition of Time, Bush has been on 30 covers of the magazine. Fine Condition. Matted and framed, not in Gallery of History style: 18½x17½.
