GEORGE W. BUSH
Signed quotation from his September 11 speech in black ink
Typed Quotation signed: "George W. Bush", 1p, 7¼x1¾. Signed by Bush on magazine-quality
paper, next to which the following quotation has been typed: "Terrorist attacks can shake/the
foundations of our biggest/buildings, but they cannot/touch the foundation of/America./President
George W. Bush/September 11, 2001". On September 11, 2001, from the Oval Office of the
White House, at 8:30 P.M., President Bush addressed the nation. He began: "Good
evening. Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series
of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes, or in their offices; secretaries,
businessmen and women, military and federal workers; moms and dads, friends and neighbors.
Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror. The pictures of airplanes
flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible
sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our
nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; our country is strong. A great people has been
moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest
buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but
they cannot dent the steel of American resolve…." George W. Bush, born in 1946, worked on
his father's successful 1988 presidential campaign before assembling the group of partners
that purchased the Texas Rangers baseball franchise in 1989.He served as managing general
partner of the Texas Rangers until he was elected Governor of Texas on November 8,
1994. Bush, who became the first Governor in Texas history to be elected to consecutive
four-year terms when he was re-elected in 1998, resigned on December 21, 2000, having been
elected 43rd President of the U.S. Reelected on November 2, 2004, Bush is the only U.S.
President to be reelected after succeeding a two-term President of the opposing political
party. Most recently, he paired up with fellow former Commander-in-Chief Bill Clinton to
conduct an in-depth interview with Time magazine and regarding their plans for the coming
year and their take on the 2016 election. This issue of Time with Clinton and himself on the
cover will be the 31st cover he has been on since June 21, 1999. Fine condition.
