Rare Autograph Letter Signed: "Jerry Ford", 1p, 6¼x8½. No place, no year, May 7th. To
Pearl [Bailey]. In full: "Have thoroughly enjoyed Perfect Lies by Wm Hallberg. As an avid golfer
I love the collection of wonderful stories of trials and tribulations on the golfing circuit. Thanks so
much for your thoughtfulness. Betty and I hope your surgery will be 100%. Our prayers and
admiration." Perfect Lies: A Century of Great Golf Stories is an anthology of 23 short
stories by literary greats such as P.G. Wodehouse, John Updike, Walker Percy and F. Scott
Fitzgerald. It was published by Doubleday in 1989. PEARL BAILEY, a longtime supporter
of Republican candidates and causes, sent the book to Ford. GERALD FORD has loved
golf since he was old enough to hold a club. Ford once responded to a question concerning
his golf game, saying: "I know I'm getting better at golf because I'm hitting fewer spectators."
Handwritten letters by post-WWII U.S. presidents are rare. Lightly soiled at upper left
